This is my fourth baby and I decided to try cloth diapering to save money. She’s now 12 days old, and we’re on day 3 of using the Bummi’s cloth diapering kit I bought. I’m just a little frustrated!! First of all, I feel like I’m changing her every 1/2 an hour! As if I need even less sleep right now! The kit instructions say that you will know/can feel when your baby is wet—I’m not sure what they’re talking about, unless you count knowing she’s wet because it’s leaking!! I think we’ve gone through nearly as many outfits as diapers. I think I’m doing everything as instructed–washed the diapers 3 times to prepare them (natural cotton), I’m folding and laying the pre-folds inside the whisper wrap covers just as the booklet says, making sure none is peeking out, fastening the cover as snugly as is possible (she’s nearly 9 pounds now and the kit is for 8-15lbs)…but still they leak! She’s also got a rash, which I thought wouldn’t happen with cloth, and the cover is irritating her
belly button and making it bleed. PS-the rash started when she was in disposables. I want to make this work but I’m frustrated!!
I’m interested in cloth diapering my next child. It certainly would be more cost efficient and "green". I’m curious though, when your child is ready to be potty trained, do you then buy the pull ups trainers(Or something like this)? Or just continue with cloth diapers until they are fully trained?
Im a FTM due in May and have done quite a bit of research on cloth diapering and have settled on G Diapers although I dont plan on using the flushies. I would like to use a pre-fold or flat-fold as an insert but have not been able to figure out what size or brand to use. Im not wanting to spend a lot and then find out that they dont work. My main question is will the Gerber Diaper Service pre-fold (found at Target or Walmart) fit in to the small G Diaper, or will it be too big?
Thanks for the help!
Did you use the Gerber Diaper Service Cloth Diapers when your dd was a newborn?
Im new to this and dont know how to respond to someones answer… Any help?
I’ve just transitioned to cloth (yay!)… only wearing the Bumwear and Kushies for now as they were lent to me to try and I don’t really have the budget right now to buy a variety of others that I’d like to try (ie. Bumgenius, FB, G’s, etc… there are so many!). I don’t like the Kushies as they are soo bulky with the wrap, cloth diaper and liner… the Bumwear is better, not as bulky.. but for my 17lbs 3 month old… still kind of bulky. Needless to say, I’m learning that cloth diapering is helplessly bulkier than disposables… but I’m determined to make cloth diapering work for us. So I just wanted to know what cloth diapers work for the chubby babies out there. Thx!
Thanks for the answers so far! Any good Canadian sites out there that sell good fitted cloth diapers?
I started using cloth diapers on my 4 month old about 2 months ago. I use pampers at night and if we go out, but use cloth at home. A few days ago, she started getting a horrible diaper rash. I thought cloth diapers were supposed to prevent diaper rash? I change her very frequently, unless she’s sleeping of course. And I was them with Soap nuts and always do an extra rinse. I know you;’re not supposed to use zinc cream with cloth diapers. What am I doing wrong? How can I treat it if I can’t use zinc with the cloth? I have switched back to disposables for now, but I really hate using them. any tips from cloth diapering parents?
She’s exclusively breastfed. I used cloth diapers exclusively with my first daughter and we had to switch to disposables at about 18 months because her rash was so bad. Once we swtiched, it got much better.
I have decided that in effort to fix my budget and stay at home instead of going back to work that I will switch to cloth.
I have learned how to make my own and inherited some from friends. Have just started using more frequently and baby seems to be quite comfortable this way. She is 11 months and wiggly so it’s quite a learning curve….
Does any one have any good advice, tips relating to cloth diapering that might be helpful?
Thanks
